Management Takeover

Another one bites the dust as our second flat mate moves out and is replaced by (yet another) management student. At this rate it won’t be long until all of us living here are all minds of management.

The ball has officially started rolling so to speak, presentations of IPP projects were made for us to choose from and although we were supposed to choose one or two projects to work on I seem to have gotten over excited and put my name down for four. This is absolutely not a bad thing though, I can’t wait to begin properly working on events and getting myself out there. The projects I find myself working on are Loud in the Library (which I’ll go into more detail about in second), MRW, the short film and hopefully 2ube extra. As well as this I got an email today asking me to be stage manager assistant for the in the dock stage at Deershed festival next summer which is good news and shows I’ve been doing okay in previous jobs I suppose. We’ve even started running a little club night called Rebel Rebel.

The MRW project is one I find particularly exciting as it’s allowing me to go down to London to help film a tour video for Black Stone Cherry at the O2 (!!!). I love this as I’m currently really missing the more artistic side of events so I can’t wait to get stuck in. Working with these guys also means I’ll hopefully be writing some gig reviews which is something I’ve never really dabbled in.. lets see what I’ve got!

As I mentioned a short while ago, I told the external events team that I’d work on the Loud in the Library gigs with them. The first one of these events was put on this weekend and so I headed over to lend a hand. Unfortunately as me and the other 5 LIPA students who went found out, it wasn’t exactly what we’d initially thought by the way that the event had described the work we would be doing. The whole thing was designed as a ‘workshop’ which it quickly became obvious was usually aimed at much younger people. We were being taught things well within all our skill sets and so sadly I didn’t really learn very much from the whole experience. On top of this I had to interview the band that were playing (The Magnetic North) who turned out to be really awful and almost unresponsive. Though I didn’t take this personally as it is an unfortunate fact that some people just aren’t very accommodating. It put a downer on my first ever interview and had me gritting my teeth through the whole experience. All a learning curve though I suppose, at least now I know that I have the ability to compose myself around those who don’t really deserve that courtesy.

Regardless of this one negative experience I’m still keen to begin the other projects. Working on the short film is exciting as although I’ve been a runner previously I’ve never worked on a project of this nature so it’ll be interesting to see how I adapt. I’ll keep you posted!
