So, what’s new? Winter is slowly but surely rolling in and the confinement to my flat is increasing as we find ourselves unable to bare Liverpools less than appealing weather. On the back of this I truly began to crack on with the MRW radio playlisting, I had to more or less independently create 168 hour long playlists and input them into a running schedule for what would eventually be a 24 hour online streaming broadcast. This took a considerable amount of time, it got to the point where I was looking to the posters on my walls for inspiration for playlist names, the most desperate of which was ‘mesh-temptation-hurt’ off a New Order poster by my bed. So after well over 30 hours of work creating the playlists, choosing what time of day they’d be on and then organising the Spotify I was finally done! Have to say I got a little bit obsessed at one point and created them for 8 hours straight… that’s dedication for you.
Despite only saying I would be a pair of set hands during filming week for the 2nd years film project, I seem have been roped into doing a fundraiser gig for it. We’ve found a way to use this even as our IPP project though which should come in very handy as we wanted to keep Rebel Rebel as something separate from LIPA. We’re still working on a USP for this event and we’re hoping to put it on just after christmas, nice to have another little side project though I did complain when it was thrown in my direction.
A few weeks ago a third year manager drafted me and a few others to help on a disco festival in the Baltic Triangle. I have to say, it was quit and experience. Though most of my day was spent getting gradually more and more infuriated by the audacity and insolence of taxi drivers, I did get to spend some time backstage in one of the warehouses. Here I was given many useful tips and pieces of advice from my stage manager in terms of dealing with artists and how to approach a team of staff who may be working for you. I also learnt that making sure your team actually know that you’re the stage manager at all and that you turn up on time makes you look a hell of a lot better than if you don’t, that’s all I’ll say about that matter.
